Legacy week September 2023
LTT’s journey started with young children trying to get an education in a deteriorating primary school. We started with classroom renovations, and the addition of desks and books… the real basics. We moved on to hygiene and health (toilets that meet the needs of the users), lunch and fuel efficient stoves to cook on, school market gardens and orchards (to grow food and improve diet) and currently we are working on teacher training, as you know the journey to a quality education is long and complex.
The community knows that the answer to a quality education isn’t just in schools, so along this journey, through our partners, we started working with parents and the wider community and consulting them directly on issues surrounding the school, not just the school development committee. One programme tackled the taboos and misinformation surrounding menstruation which was leading to girls missing school. Our livelihood programmes aim to improve household income security so that families can afford the costs of further education rather than fear having to prevent their children advancing..
Today, children from these communities sit in improved classrooms and are passing their exams and progressing on to secondary school. This is where our next challenge lies. There simply are not enough classrooms for them all, and new schools need to be built and the toilets at existing secondary schools need to be adjusted to meet the needs of the girls.
The world doesn’t stand still and nor do we.
Giving a gift to LTT in your Will would allow LTT to help others on their journey through life. It would lay the foundations for the next generation, a generation that needs education more than ever to tackle the challenges they will face.
People that give us a gift in their will, trust us to make sure their donation has a lasting legacy. If you would like to leave a legacy to LTT, please email julian@livingstonetanzaniatrust.com or mention LTT to your solicitor when updating or creating your will.
