In April, we launched out Hand Washing Appeal to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Babati and you all reacted brilliantly. Together we raised over £8,000 which is amazing for a small charity like ours. - Thank you

It has been a remarkable project. Working at speed in Tanzania is never easy, but the focus of everyone on the immediate problems was inspiring. Working with the health and town officials we talked about the specifications of the design of the hand washing stands and working with local welders we produced a few prototypes before settling on one. The soap was produced on mass by a graduate from our Street Business School Training Programme. Discussions were then held about maintenance, refilling the water and soap, who pays for the on going soap and water as well as who secures the stands at night. It was agreed that all responsibility would be assumed by the location hosts. This was agreed by the Town Director.

RESULT OF YOUR SUPPORT……

  • 72 hands-free hand washing stands with soap have been distributed across 12 communities, include 9 in local and regional hospitals, 12 in government offices and others at police stations and local markets

  • To date 5 schools have received hand washing facilities benefiting over 3,400 students and teachers

I feel very happy because of the support we were given and now the attitude of washing hands will continue and people will be safe from other diseases caused by bacteria.” - Street Executive Officer

They have been very helpful to the community and I can boldly say, with all the other factors that contribute to this, the stands have played the biggest role. The community were very happy that you reached out to support them at this difficult time.” - Street Executive Officer
